Location

The village of Upper Castiel is 50-200 meters away from the road that leads from Chur to Arosa. You will experience traffic noise around the house, only when cows or sheep are driven up or down the alp by local farmers, or early in the morning when the streets are exempt from the freshly fallen snow. Because of its location on the southern slopes high above the valley, the house has sunshine from morning to evening all year round, even in December and January. In addition, the village is almost always free from the winter fog that usually brings the lower elevations of the foothills many gray days.
The climate is a moderate mountain climate. Since the inner-alpine valley Schanfigger lies between the great mountain ranges, it can be compared to the northern edge of the Alps, unexpectedly dry and sunny. In summer it is, in spite of the height, pretty warm during the day and pleasantly cool during the night. In winter, cold nights often alternate with sunny and relatively mild days.
